Cross and Bible Door

.
.
I think of this as a standard six panel door but in colonial New England they attached to it an added layer of visual symbolism. From the upper stiles and rails of the door they isolated the shape of a cross and in the lower two panels they saw an open bible. This style of door was often chosen to hang in the entryway of a Christian home. It was known as a Christian or Cross and Bible door.

Great little tidbit of the definition of a cross-and-bible door. Thank you!
