OVERFALLS

.
.
Taking pictures in Lewes Delaware, I spied this ship on a trailer.
.

.
Where did I know it from?
.
.
In a nearby cove, another likeness.
.
.
I know this ship from right here in the Lewes canal.
.
.
Has something happened to it?

The lightship Overfalls was built in 1938 and has the distinction of being the last lightship ever built by the United States Lighthouse Service. It was decommissioned in 1972 and has been in the Lewes canal since 1973; that is until Tuesday, October 14th 2008. On that day the Overfalls left Lewes for Norfolk, Virgina where, thanks to the volunteers of the Overfall's Maritime Museum Foundation, she will undergo major hull repairs. This group has entirely restored the vessel in the last ten years. Everything has been done with donations and more help will be needed to bring the Overfalls home.
